Company History

Written by Danny Haslam

  • 1919 T. H. Haslam & Company is Born

Thomas Harold Haslam (my great grandfather) sets up wholesale footwear business “T. H. Haslam & Company”. The business was built on supplying the traditional, independent shoe shops that were once littered all over the north of England.
  • 1949 Roy Allen Shoes Sets Up Shop

Roy Allen left his job at the co-op, in the footwear department and pursues his dream of opening his own shoe shop. R. Allen footwear opens its doors in heart of Bolton town centre.
  • 1988 Roy Retires & We Step In

Roy ran the business from the Great Moor Street location all the way up to 1988 when he decided to retire. It was at this point when Thomas Howard (my father) offered to buy the shop to prevent the town from losing yet another traditional shoe shop from the high street. So began, our journey in retailing.
  • 2009 Danny Follows In His Grandfarthers Footsteps

In 2009, I stepped into my fathers shoes and took over our long established family business. Albeit a difficult time economically, I managed to turn around the family firm and sets it off in its new direction specialising in the fitting of wider footwear.
  • 2019 100 Years & Going Strong

We are immensely proud of our long family history in footwear (4 generations to be exact). Proud of where we are, and where we’ve come from. There are always ups and downs but rest assured, the plan is to stick around for the next 100! Continuing to specialise in the measuring and fitting of footwear to our ever growing customer base.
